To complete this guide you will need the following:
A phone with either:
A private phone number with the ability to receive calls or texts
The capability to install the Microsoft Authenticator app
Your trust/school username and password
Please get in touch with us at helpdesk@watergrovetrust.co.uk if you do not have these.
Click the Microsoft 'Security info' link.
You may be asked to sign in with your school account - for most people, this will be your standard email address and password. If you are a member of Matthew Moss, Sandbrook Community or Moorhouse Academy, please use your Watergrove Trust email address (in the format 'BloggsJ@watergrovetrust.co.uk') & password that you currently use to access remote desktop:
- Choose to 'Add sign-in method', confirm whether you'd prefer to use the authenticator app or phone then click 'Add':
- Follow the steps to complete enrolment in multifactor authentication. Upon completion you should see that your chosen authentication method has been added:
Proceed to the secure remote desktop link - you should be prompted to verify your identity using the method you set up previously. Once verified, enter your school username & password then 'Sign in':
- If you have successfully logged in, congratulations - you have completed enrolment into MFA. You will either see a link for 'Remote Desktop' (in this case, proceed to the next step) or a message stating that 'there are currently no resources assigned to you'. If it's the latter, you have either:
Logged in prior to Monday 21st October 2024, in which case, the new link isn't active yet - please continue to use the old one for now.
Not got permission to access this resource - please contact helpdesk@watergrovetrust.co.uk.
Clicking the ‘Remote Desktop’ link will attempt to connect you to a secure remote desktop session in your web browser. The ‘Access Local Resources’ prompt will request your permission to copy/paste and print from the remote session:
You should now be connected to your secure remote desktop:
BONUS STEP - if you have been given a USB security key you can use this instead of your phone to verify your identity when logging into the secure remote desktop. Follow this guide to enrol your USB security key.
